THE SOMETHING BLUE WEDDING TRADITION
~
Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue...

Taken from the Old English rhyme - Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue... - wearing 'Something Old' represents the bride's past - it is symbolic of continuity; whilst the 'Something New' represents good luck, success and the couple's bright future.

The bride is supposed to receive her 'Something Borrowed' from a happily married woman - in the hope that some of the 'marital happiness' is carried into the new marriage.

'Something Blue' has been incorporated in weddings throughout history - during ancient Rome, brides would wear blue to symbolize love, modesty, and fidelity. Before the late 19th century, blue was a popular colour for wedding gowns, as evidenced in proverbs such as: "Marry in blue, lover be true".

To incoporate your traditional 'Something Blue' into your wedding day you may like to choose one of our handmade bridal garters or lucky wedding horseshoes which feature blue embellishments.

Many of our bridal garters do not have blue incorporated into the design - if you would like a blue Swaroski crystal or little blue bow sewn into the inside of the garter, please do not hesitate to ask.
